XIII International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreographers

Terms and regulations:
1.Application
- The Competition is divided into age categories: Junior Group (girls and boys) and Senior Group (women and men). Each age group can compete in solo and duet divisions.
- Age allowances are:
The youngest participant in the Junior Group has to be 14 years old and the oldest has to be under 19.
The youngest participant in the Senior Group has to be 19 years old and the oldest has to be under 27.
- The Competition will be take place in Moscow at the Bolshoi Theatre from June 10 till June 20, 2017.
- Applicants wishing to participate in the Competition are required to send the following documents to the Competition Board via e-mail: moscow@gmail.com:
- application form (please find sample attached)
- ID copy
- dance education certificate
- brief biography (please find sample attached)
- program for each Round of the Competition with the title of each piece, name of the composer and the choreographer (please see form in attachment)
- one portrait photo, one photo in costume (1MB, not less than 300 dpi, please find sample attached))
- high quality video of applicant’s performance of any variation or duet. The video should be sent either via e-mail or as a link to YouTube and duly signed: name and surname of applicant, title of the performence and the date of recording.
The applications deadline is March 31, 2017
Note: Laureates of International Ballet Competitions – members of International Federation of Ballet Competitions http://balletfederation.com – will be admitted to the Competition without preliminary selections. In this case they must submit a copy of the Diploma of Laureate instead of video.

- The Organizing Committee has the right to admit no more than 200 contestants, including partners and choreographers’ performers, selected on the basis of their applications and video-recordings by the decision of the Selection committee.
- If a contestant declines to take part in the Competition, all documents and video submitted and related to the participant will not be returned. The application fee is non-refundable.
- Applicants admitted to the Competition will be notified by the Competition Board not later than April 20, 2017.
- Foreign admitted applicants will receive a formal invitation letter, which should be submitted to the Russian Consulate when applying for visas.
- Procedure
- The Competition consitst of preliminary video round and three rounds on the stahe of the Bolshoi Theatre. Round III is the final. Senior Group will perform at Round III with the orchestral accompaniment.
- Performing order will be determined by draw procedure and will remain till the end of the Competition. Performing order for duets is determined by the order number of the female competitor.
- After registration and draw procedure, all changes in the contestant’s program can be made only in exceptional cases and only with the permission of the Jury.
- Performance of each contestant will be judged individually whether he/she performs solo or in a duet. Contestants performing in duets have the right to perform with non-competing partners.
- If a contestant performing in Duet category is not admitted to Round II or Round III, he/she must stay till the end of the Competition at the expense of the Competition Board and perform with his/her partner who is continuing to compete in the following rounds, as well as perform at the Closing Ceremony and Winners Gala.
- In case if the choreographer becomes a laureate or diploma-holder of the Contest of Choreographers, but the contestants, who have performed a contemporary piece, staged by that choreographer, are not admitted to Round II or Round III, they and their partners must stay till the end of the Competition at the expense of the Competition Board and participate in the Closing Ceremony and Winners Gala.
- Contestants can use audio-recordings for their performances. All music should be recorded on CD or mini-disks and submitted to the Competition Board upon arrival. The CDs should be properly signed: the name of competitor, the title of the piece, № of the Round. Participants must submit recordings for each piece separately.
- The Jury reserves the rights to:
- not award all prizes
- divide prizes between contestants (except for the Grand Prix)
- award titles of Diploma-holders to participants of the Final Round, who are not awarded with the title of Laureate;
- award special prizes
- Decisions of the Jury are final and are not a subject to be reviewed.
- All Laureates and Diploma Holders and their partners must perform free of charge at the Closing Ceremony and Winners Gala with the program agreed by the Jury and Competition Board.
- The Competition Board reserves all rights for TV broadcasting, video recording and filming of all three Rounds, Closing Ceremony and Gala-concert, as well as for their further distribution (on commercial basis including) without any additional fees. The Competition Board reserves the exclusive right to sign contracts with third parties for merchandising of the materials mentioned above.
Photo shooting, video recording and filming at the Competition can be possible only with the special permission from the Competition Board.
- Financial conditions
- Contestants and their partners will arrive at the Competition on the dates indicated by the Competition Board in the Letter of Invitation. If the contestants wish to arrive before the specified dates, they will be held responsible to pay accomodation and all extra expenses up to the specified arrival date, set by the Competition Board.
- The Competition Board must pay for the hotel accommodation and meals of the contestants and their partners only for the period of their official participation in the Competition: from the date of their arrival to Moscow but not earlier than the specified date, and for no more than two days after the end of the Round, in which the contestant took part.
- Contestants, arriving at the Competition and refusing to perform, and Contestants who are not admitted to Round II and Round III and their partners can stay up to the end of Competition at their own expense.
- If requested in advance,The Competition Board can assist accompanying persons of the contestant (teachers, relatives) with visa arrangements and hotel reservations.
- The Competition Board does not provide insurances for the contestants and their partners, as well as their accompanying persons.
- The Competition Board does not provide contestants with music, costumes, make-up and ballet footwear.
- The Competition Board will provide contestants with rehearsal rooms and one stage rehearsal before each Round at the place where the Competition will be held.
- By signing the Application form, applicants are obliged to declare that they fully accept the Rules of the Competition.
